Looking for golfers for 7th Annual Acadian Golf Tournament

CLINTON, PEI – Aug. 10, 2012 – Golfers at the 7th Annual Acadian Golf Tournament, to be held Sunday, Sept. 16, at 8 a.m. at the Red Sands Golf Course in Clinton, will have the opportunity to play a great morning game, win nice prizes and chow down on a great barbecued meal in peaceful, friendly and social atmosphere. And golfers who get a hole-in-one at Hole 7 will win $20,000!

But while they’re having fun and getting a chance to win big bucks, they’ll be primarily helping to ensure that 150 young French-speaking athletes from PEI will get a chance to participate in the Jeux de l’Acadie programs over the next year.

“In fact, the funds raised during the tournament again this year will help provide training for our coaches and athletes as well as to purchase sports equipment so that our PEI delegation will be able to participate in the Jeux de l’Acadie Finals in Richibucto and Saint-Louis-de-Kent, N.B., in June 2013,” says Jeannette Gallant, the provincial coordinator for the games.

As usual, the Acadian Golf Tournament is organized by the PEI Regional Committee of the Jeux de l’Acadie. For a first time, the tournament is presented in collaboration with the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI. The main sponsor of the event is once again the Evangeline-Central Credit Union.

Organizers are therefore inviting all those who enjoy golf – including new players as well as those who’ve been playing for decades – to sign up for the tournament. The event can accommodate a maximum of 72 players on a first-come, first-served basis. Two-person teams will be formed to play a game of the “Texas Scramble” format.

The registration fee is $60 per adult and $45 per youth under the age of 16. Please note that these amounts must be paid in cash or cheque upon arrival at the golf course; credit cards will not be accepted. Those registered will get to play 18 holes (two rounds of nine holes) and to partake in a barbecue lunch.

During the meal, prizes will be awarded to the players who will have attained the best scores as well as to the players that attained the longest and closest shots. As well, all participants will receive small gifts; several door prizes will also be awarded.

To register, please contact Jeannette Gallant at (902) 854-7435 or at jeuxacadie@gov.pe.ca before Monday, Sept. 10, 2012.

Each of the holes will be sponsored by a business or organization. These $100 hole sponsorships will contribute to the tournament’s profits. The organizing committee is still looking for hole sponsors; those interested are urged to immediately contact the coordinator.
