Who will earn championship of 2017 Acadian Golf Tournament? Last call for registrations

NEW GLASGOW – Aug. 31, 2017 – For the past few years, it’s always been the same team that has taken the championship of the Acadian Golf Tournament. However, this year, it appears some of this team’s members won’t be able to participate.

“It will therefore be extremely interesting to see which team will be named champion and will get its name engraved on the championship plaque this year,” says tournament coordinator Jeannette Gallant. She reminds all golfers of the registration deadline, Tuesday, Sept. 5, and notes there are still a few team spots left.

The 2017 Acadian Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. at the Glasgow Hills Golf Course in New Glasgow. As always, this amateur tournament is a fundraiser for the PEI Regional Committee of the Jeux de l’Acadie that helps ensure the participation of Island youth at the 2018 Finals of Les Jeux de l’Acadie in Miramichi, NB.

Gallant adds that all kinds of prizes will be given to winners in a number of fun competitions. Among the gifts are a number of free green fees, a wine kit, electric tools, golf clothing and equipment, camping chairs, numerous gift cards for restaurants and stores, etc. And players should not forget that they can win a $35,000 Honda car if they get a hole-in-one at a specific hole.

SUPPORTING YOUTH

“We encourage all businesses, organizations and all other people to register for this great amateur, bilingual sports event that is so important for our young Jeux de l’Acadie participants,” says Raymond J. Arsenault, coordinator of the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI, a partner in the organization of the event. “Last year, we raised about $7,000. We would really like to surpass this amount this year.”

Golfers will be asked to arrive at the club between 12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to sign in. Each team will have access to two golf carts. The tournament begins at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. The event will be played in the best-ball Mulligan format. Stations located along the course will provide snacks, little games and various surprises.

After playing their 18 holes, the golfers will gather at the clubhouse for a good supper (mussels, hamburgers or sausages, salad, beverage).

The registration fee for this year’s tournament will be $90 per person or $360 per foursome. To register, contact Jeannette Gallant at (902) 439-2791 or at jeannettegallant@gov.pe.ca.
