Promotional poster contest launched for first francophone PEI book fair

SUMMERSIDE, PEI – Feb. 7, 2014 – The organizing committee of the first-ever Salon du livre de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard (francophone book fair of PEI), to be held June 5-7, 2014 in Summerside, has just launched a poster contest for Grade 4 French first-language classes and Grade 6 French Immersion classes on PEI.

Lucille Fontaine, chair of the Salon’s organizing committee, hopes the student will be inspired by the chosen topic. « The theme S’ouvrir aux mondes – or Opening Up to the Worlds – was chosen since it refers to all of the worlds, the realities and the marvels that books can help us discover without even leaving our home. The theme also relates to multiculturalism, the opening of our minds, discoveries… things to make us dream and to stimulate our imagination! »

Young artists have until Feb. 25 to enter their works into the contest. The organizing committee will then do a pre-selection, according to the following criteria: their originality, the way the subject matter is expressed, the illustration and the quality of the language used. Once the pre-selection is completed, the remaining finalist works will be posted on the Salon’s Facebook page from Feb. 28 to March 13, 2014. Votes from the public (the number of « Likes ») will determine the winner. The name of the winning class will be announced March 14.

« The winning poster will be used on the event’s promotional material and the winning class will receive a collection of books from the many authors attending the Salon, » explains Fontaine. « It should also be noted that all posters entered into the contest will be displayed during the book fair at the Centre Belle-Alliance in Summerside, the host site of event. »

Information and rules about the poster contest can be obtained by email from the event coordinator at salondulivreipe@gmail.com.
