WELLINGTON – Jan. 31, 2025 – The Wellington Rural Action Centre has hired a new client information officer to serve its many entrepreneurial and community clients.
“Originally from Cameroon, Africa, our new officer Marthe Ngombi has completed advanced studies and has nine years’ experience managing and coordinating various projects, so she’s well prepared to take on this new challenge we’ve presented her with,” points out Stéphane Blanchard, executive director of RDÉE Prince Edward Island, the francophone economic development council that oversees the center’s operations.
In her position as client information officer at the Wellington Rural Action Centre (which she started Jan. 27), Marthe will help business and community clients find and access the government and community information or resources they need to complete their projects, arrange meetings with officials from various government and support agencies, fill out funding application forms, and more. She will also work closely with the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce to organize and run entrepreneurial training, awareness and networking activities. In fact, she often takes registrations for these numerous activities. She also acts as the receptionist for RDÉE Prince Edward Island’s Wellington head office.
“I’m still in full learning mode, but I’m really looking forward to meeting my new clients and the participants of our many activities, and serving them to the best of my ability,” says the new officer. “Please feel free to come and meet me to discuss your ideas for entrepreneurial or community projects.”
Her office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the “winter months” (early October to late May) and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the “summer months” (late May to early October). She can be reached in person at her office at 48 Mill Road, Wellington, by telephone at (902) 854-3439, or by e-mail at marthe@rdeeipe.org. It’s always best to make an appointment in advance to avoid long waits.
The Wellington Rural Action Centre is part of a provincial network of three centers (the others located in Alberton and Montague) acting as navigators for the many provincial and federal government programs available to entrepreneurs, employers and not-for-profit organizations. The Wellington RAC is the only one that is bilingual, so it can serve French-speaking clients from one end of the province to the other.
Ngombi replaces Josée (Ouellette) Arsenault, who has just left her post after five years. Fortunately, Arsenault was able to spend her last week at work passing on her knowledge to the new officer.
MARTHE NGOMBI
Ngombi arrived in Canada, directly from Cameron, on Nov. 27, 2024. More precisely, she landed in Quebec to join her sister who was already in this country. Following her original plan, she moved to Charlottetown on Jan. 9, 2025, hoping to find a job there. As soon as she was hired as a client information officer at the Wellington Rural Action Centre, she moved to Summerside on Jan. 27.
“I chose Prince Edward Island first and foremost because I wanted to improve my English to become perfectly bilingual, and also because of the province’s charm,” she points out. Marthe also speaks a little Italian, which means she’s actually becoming trilingual rather than bilingual.
Ngombi holds a bachelor’s degree in science from Cameron’s Collège bilingue Adonaï (2012-2013), a professional degree in environment and energy from the Catholic University of Central Africa (2014-2017) and a professional master’s degree in environment and natural resource management from the Pan-African Institute for Development in Central Africa (2017-2019).
In regard to her previous employment, she first did an internship assessing the environmental situation of various neighborhoods for ERA-Cameroon in 2016 as well as an environmental management internship at Fisco Sarl in 2017. She was then assistant in hygiene, safety and environment at Aluval Design Sarl (2019-2020), environmentalist at the Délégation départementale de l’Environnement et Protection de la nature et du Développement durable (2021-2022) and assistant to the Projet point focal Afrique francophone (2022-2024). The latter project, although also based in Cameroon, enabled her to work on projects for Congo, Senegal and Niger. Her previous jobs gave her ample opportunity to coordinate activities or to take care of their administrative management.
