Three Young Millionaires businesses participate in Co-op Week

WELLINGTON – Oct. 21, 2024 – Four owners of three Young Millionaires businesses took advantage of National Food Co-op Day to visit Wellington Co-op, in the late afternoon and early evening of Friday, Oct. 18, to sell their hand-made products.

Addison Short of The Diamond Fun sold diamond art products and souvenirs; Jace Adams and Coraleen Gallant of Funky Loomers sold bracelets; and Fitia-Océane Razafindrakoto of Océane & Co. sold raffia jewelry and bags. All were strategically placed near the entrance where people arriving at the coop couldn’t miss them.

All these young people had established their Young Millionaires businesses last summer, with the help of RDÉE Prince Edward Island, and had travelled to various locations and events to sell their products. Some still had leftover products, and some produced additional ones when they heard there was a free opportunity to sell more.

Wellington Co-op manager Chris O’Brien was a Young Millionaire as a child. He had seen several of the Young Millionaires last summer at Place du Village during their “Mini Market at the Mini-Mall” and thought at the time that he’d like to bring some of them back for the Co-op’s special day, which was part of Co-op and Small Business Weeks.

The event coordinator for the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI, Alecia Arsenault, contacted all of last summer’s francophone Young Millionaires from the East Prince region to determine their interest in participating. Fortunately, three of the companies (represented by four young people) accepted the offer.

O’Brien is thinking of organizing the Wellington Co-op Day activities on a Saturday (rather than a Friday) next year, to give these young entrepreneurs more time to sell their products.
