NEW GLASGOW – Sept. 15, 2015 – Nobody was really surprised last Sunday night at Glasgow Hills Golf Club when it was announced that the OMD Construction and Consulting team from Maximeville, with its tournament record score of 58, had captured the championship of the 10th Annual Acadian Golf Tournament.

That’s because the team – made up of Jamie Caissie, Marcel Landry, Ryan Gallant and Nicholas Gallant – had also earned the same title at both the 2014 and 2013 editions of the tournament, with scores of 59 and 61 respectively.

Even though the final results were pretty much anticipated and that the skies were fairly cloudy, the 80 participating golfers said they had a great time during the benefit tournament, held for a first time at the New Glasgow course. Thanks to the players and the sponsors, including lead sponsor Evangeline-Central Credit Union, the event earned a respectable profit of $6,472 to purchase equipment and uniforms for the PEI delegation at the next Jeux de l’Acadie Finals.

Tournament organizers – the PEI Regional Committee of les Jeux de l’Acadie and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI – both expressed their satisfaction as well as their recognition for the efforts made by the volunteers, the sponsors and the Glasgow Hills staff who helped ensure the event’s success. They then launched a challenge to the participating teams to return to next year’s tournament and to bring along another team so that even more money could be raised for the Island’s young athletes.

OTHER RESULTS

The team “Roger Richard et trois autres gars” (made up of Roger Richard, Martin Allard, Dany MacDonald and Maxime Duguay from the Charlottetown area) took the second top spot with their score of 61. Right on their heels, with a score of 63, was the third-place team, “Les Chalets de la Grande basse”, composed of Lucien Bernard, Charles Arsenault, Daniel Pitre and Mathieu Richard from the Evangeline area. Meanwhile, The Hondas (Gerald Arsenault, Charles Bernard, Jamie Perry and Mario Arsenault from the Evangeline region) took home fourth place with their tally of 66.

The tournament had offered a $25,000 car for a hole-in-one at Hole 10, thanks to a shared sponsorship between Centennial Honda and The Co-operators. Regrettably, nobody go the hole-in-one but Lucien Bernard won a consolation prize for coming in closest to the pin at that hole.

•    Closest to the pin (men) at Hole 13: Darin Foulkes
•    Closest to the pin (all golfers) at Hole 7: Owen Arsenault
•    Longest drive (women) at Hole 9: Marcia Arsenault
•    Longest drive (men) at Hole 6: Daniel Pitre
•    Longest drive with the opposite hand at Hole 11: Dwayne MacLeod
•    First team to officially register: Par Par
•    Best team spirit: The Heavyweights
•    Team having made the most effort to not win: The Intelligents (80).

To celebrate the tournament’s 10th anniversary, two little out-of-tournament games were organized, offering 10 prizes per game: finding a gumdrop in your cupcake and finding a golf ball taped under your chair. A few joke prizes were also presented, but volunteers Louis and Diane Richard of Mont-Carmel were recognized for helping organize the tournament since its inception.
