WELLINGTON – Jan. 4, 2018 – All workers who use chemicals or other dangerous materials are invited to take a three-hour course Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Wellington to obtain their Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification.

The course will be delivered in English from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Collège de l’Île at 48 Mill Road, Wellington. The trainer will be Alvin Smith, occupational health and safety training coordinator with the JVI Transportation and Safety Academy of Summerside. The registration fee is $40.25 (tax included) per person.

WHMIS regulations were broadened last summer. The Feb. 6 course will therefore cover all regulations and practices now required by the national law. Usually, workers must renew their WHMIS certification every three years.

The training is being delivered jointly by the Wellington Rural Action Centre, the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI and the Collège de l’Île (who is registering some of its students who are required to get the certification).
