Island Chambers stand up for small business against unfair tax proposal

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE –  Sept. 6, 2017 – Prince Edward Island’s Chambers of Commerce are inviting Island businesses to stand up in opposition to the federal government’s unfair tax proposal.

The federal government has released a consultation document proposing major changes to how businesses are taxed. In response to this, Chambers have created an online submission form, where feedback will be emailed directly to the Island’s four Members of Parliament as well as Minister of Finance, Bill Morneau.

The following joint statement has been issued: “We, as Chambers of Commerce from across Prince Edward Island, representing over 1900 businesses, oppose the proposed changes to how businesses are taxed in Canada on the grounds that they punish small business and discourage entrepreneurship.”

Businesses are invited to submit their feedback to their local federal officials by using this form: http://charlottetownchamber.com/stand-small-business/. The deadline for submission on the federal government consultation document is October 2, 2017.

Chambers are encouraging businesses to contact their financial advisors to further understand how these changes will impact them. Businesses can also contact their local chamber representative for more information.
