Fundraiser for Jeux de l’Acadie’s PEI programming

STRATFORD – July 20, 2023 – Organizers of the 17th Acadian Golf Tournament are launching the registration period for this popular, friendly competition for amateur and experienced players, to be held for the very first time at Stratford’s Fox Meadow Golf Course on Sunday, Sept. 10th, at 9 a.m. Registration deadline is Sept. 1.

At the same time, Provincial Credit Union is announcing that it will again be the main sponsor of the tournament, which is a fundraiser for the PEI Regional Committee of Les Jeux de l’Acadie’s sports and personal development programming, including the participation of over 100 young Islanders in the 2024 Finals of the Jeux de l’Acadie in the Greater Bouctouche region of New Brunswick.

« We continue to sponsor this tournament because we believe that the development of our young people is extremely important, and that this is an excellent opportunity to show our support, » said Alfred Arsenault, general manager of Provincial Credit Union network. « We encourage all other businesses and organizations to also do their part by becoming hole sponsors ($100) or by sponsoring other facets of this day, which is always a lot of fun. »

The Regional Committee and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI, who are collaborating to organize and promote the event, hope to raise a sum comparable to last year’s total – around $9,000 – if not more.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

The registration fee (including round of golf, cart, balls, snacks, beverages and lunch) will still be $100 per person, so $400 per foursome. All players need to bring are their own clubs.

Players are asked to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. to register, listen to game instructions and prepare for the 9 a.m. start of the tournament.

Tournament coordinator Jeannette Gallant explains that this year’s tournament will again start in shotgun style. Golfers will be playing in Mulligan (or best ball) format. Here and there along the course, there will be kiosks offering snacks, small games or little surprises.

Wherever possible, golfers are asked to pay in advance; organizers strongly encourage payment by etransfer.
