WELLINGTON – Oct. 1, 2019 – Many regional and provincial partners are joining forces again this year to organize a wide variety of activities during the Co-op and Small and Business Weeks, Oct. 13-26. Some are free while others invite people to contribute non-perishable foods. Some are informational and others are purely recreational. Here is the list of events.
OCT. 13-26 – SALE OF KNITTED AND HANDCRAFTED PRODUCTS at the community care centre of Le Chez-nous Co-operative in Wellington. These beautiful crafts (stockings, mittens, slippers, tuques, scarves, towels, etc.) have all been knitted or handmade by residents of Le Chez-nous and Le Bel âge complex. They will be on display and on sale on a table near the entrance to the fireplace.
OCT. 15-24 – FOOD DRIVE FOR NON-PERISHABLE GOODS for the Summerside Salvation Army Food Bank and the Tyne Valley Caring Cupboard. Bring your food contributions to Evangeline Central Credit Union or Wellington Co-op. Your name will be entered into a draw for a $100 Wellington Co-op gift card. Or, your child can make your contributions at the Evangeline School, where the class that collects the most food will win a $100 cash prize.
TUESDAY, OCT. 15 – ENTREPRENEURS AND CO-OPERATORS BREAKFAST at the Centre Belle-Alliance in Summerside at 8 a.m. with speaker Luc Pépin, co-owner of BuroPro Citation (member of the Hamster Group) from Quebec. He will present his recipe for entrepreneurial success and offer suggestions on how to overcome entrepreneurial challenges. At this free event (breakfast included), the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce will launch its entrepreneurial excellence awards competition. RDÉE PEI will also reveal details about its Francophone Ignition Contest. There will be draws for door prizes. Sponsored by CBDC PEI Centrale, the LIENS project, RDÉE PEI and the Wellington Rural Action Centre. Registration required by Oct. 8. TUESDAY, OCT. 15 – ENTREPRENEURS AND CO-OPERATORS NETWORKING EVENING at PEI Brewing Company in Charlottetown from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with speaker Luc Pépin, co-owner of BuroPro Citation (member of Hamster Group) from Quebec. He will present his recipe for entrepreneurial success and offer suggestions on how to overcome entrepreneurial challenges; his presentation will focus more on Francophone immigrant entrepreneurs. Three panelists will also speak about the RDÉE’s sales missions in Quebec, the immigrant entrepreneurial journey and a new organizational method. The Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI will launch its entrepreneurial excellence awards competition. RDÉE PEI will also reveal details about its Francophone Ignition Contest. Snacks and prize draws will be offered to participants. Cash bar service. Presented by RDÉE PEI’s LIENS project and the Chamber of Commerce. TUESDAY, OCT 15 – OPEN HOUSE at the funeral home of the Evangeline Funeral Co-op in Urbainville from 7-8:30 p.m. Refreshments to be served. (To be cancelled in case of death.)
THURSDAY, OCT. 17 – BINGO at Le Chez-nous seniors’ care facility in Wellington at 2 p.m. All seniors from the community are invited to attend. A wide variety of prizes to be won. Light snacks provided. Admission : a non-perishable food item for families in need. The doors will open at 1:30 p. m.
THURSDAY, OCT. 17 – CREDIT UNION DAY at the three branches of the Évangéline-Central Credit Union in Wellington, Tyne Valley and O’Leary. Draws, prizes and snacks all day long. Drop off your non-perishable food for food banks.
THURSDAY, OCT. 17 – CO-OPERATORS’ FORUM at 5:30 p.m. for two representatives from each of our co-operatives, who will be invited to share their recent successes, challenges and future plans. During this free supper, in the cafeteria of the Evangeline School, the Co-op Order of Merit will also be presented to a deserving person. (Participation by invitation only.)
FRIDAY, OCT. 18 – WELLINGTON CO-OP NIGHT. Come and visit the store between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to taste a variety of wines, beers and cheeses while musicians entertain you. Door prizes will also be available all day long!
FRIDAY, OCT. 18 – MOVIE NIGHT UNDER THE STARS (family and free) behind the Acadian Musical Village in Abram-Village at 6:30 p.m. Marvel Studios’ new film that will be screened on the giant screen: « Spider-Man: Far From Home » (English version, French subtitles). Featured: Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau and Marisa Tomei. This film is rated PG (Parental supervision recommended). Popcorn and beverages provided. Bring your own chairs (example: lawn chairs) and dress well. In case of bad weather, the screening will take place in the school gym. Presented by the Caisses populaires de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard. We will accept donations of non-perishable food for food banks.
FRIDAY, OCT. 25 – SENIOR DANCE at Le Chez-nous seniors’ facility in Wellington for residents and other seniors and adults from the area from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Great dancing music! A snack will be served!
