But everyone is encouraged to register as soon as possible so they don’t miss their chance to win these great prizes at this social, recreational and bilingual tournament, which will be held at the beautiful Mill River Golf Course in Woodstock, PEI, starting at 1 p.m.

Featured so far on the list of prizes (among others) are: a barbecue, a table saw, a wine kit, $500 in cash, many gift cards and gift certificates, a membership to a fitness centre, a newspaper subscription, passes to events and tourist attractions, golf shirts and a host of promotional items. Other prizes are continually being added to the list.

As usual, the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI will offer a series of special prize in accordance with the number of the tournament’s edition. Since this is the 14th edition, the Chamber will give away 14 prizes through a special little game during supper. This is the year of the Congrès mondial acadien, so golfers can expect that these will be « Acadian » prizes. A special prize will also be awarded to the team wearing the best “Acadian” outfit and showing the best “Acadian” spirit.

In addition, all participants will receive a package of golf balls, sunglasses, beverages, various foods and the list goes on. And of course, at the end of the tournament, everyone will be treated to a delicious supper.

OPEN TO EVERYONE

« Registration for our tournament is open to everyone, including individuals and families who will be gathering in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick for the 2019 Congrès mondial acadien and its many family reunions, » says tournament coordinator Jeannette Gallant. « We already have on our registration list several teams from the Arsenault and Haché-Gallant family reunions, but we still have room for several other teams from these and other Acadian families, or businesses and organizations. »

She indicated that the tournament can only accommodate a maximum of 144 golfers, so interested players should not wait until the last minute to register.

The Acadian Golf Tournament of PEI is a joint initiative of the PEI Regional Committee of Les Jeux de l’Acadie and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI. This year, representatives of the Arsenault and Haché-Gallant family reunions have joined the organizing committee; the regular tournament date was changed to hopefully include people who participate in the numerous 2019 CMA family reunions.

This tournament is a fundraising event that allows more than 100 young Islanders to participate in the finals of the Jeux de l’Acadie. Last year, this popular event raised a record of $7,900. Organizers hope to be able to significantly exceed this total this year.

As always, the success of the tournament will depend not only on golfers’ registrations but also on hole sponsors. Businesses and organizations are encouraged to purchase such sponsorships for $100 each in exchange for several promotional rewards.

The registration fee is $90 per person or $360 per foursome.
