Including special luncheon to recognize pioneer fishermen
SUMMERSIDE – June 23, 2016 – Over the next six months, the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI (CCAFLIPE) will organize a number of major yet regular networking, sharing and learning events. But this fall, it is adding a brand new event to honor the contribution of Acadian and Francophone pioneer fishermen to the Island economy.
Following the joint annual meeting of the CCAFLIPE and its parent organization, RDÉE Prince Edward Island, in Summerside, June 22, Chamber coordinator Raymond J. Arsenault announced details of events being organized for the rest of the calendar year.
On July 19, all members, employees and families will be able to attend the pre-premiere of the « V’nez veiller » dinner-theatre at the Acadian Musical Village in Abram-Village at a discount rate, if they get their tickets through the Chamber by July 12. This year’s show, « La plus belle au bal » (The Belle of the Ball), by Wayne Robichaud, stars Gerald Arsenault in a hilarious dual role along with five other performers.
Aug. 21, members will be able to partake in a deep-sea fishing adventure for cod and mackerel out of Rustico, again at a special group rate.
The 11th Annual Acadian Golf Tournament, organized jointly with the Jeux de l’Acadie PEI Regional Committee, is slated for Sept. 11 at the Glasgow Hills Golf Club in New Glasgow. Profits will help cover costs for the Island delegation to participate in the Jeux 2017 Finals in Fredericton, NB.
The Chamber will help organize three events for Co-op and Small Business Week. Throughout the week of Oct. 16-23, in collaboration with various co-op partners, the CCAFLIPE will encourage people to contribute to a food drive for the Summerside Food Bank.
Secondly, to launch the week, the Chamber, its same co-op partners and the Wellington Fire Department will organize a benefit casino, Saturday, Oct. 15, at Wellington Legion, again for the food bank. People who shop at Wellington Co-op the week before the casino will receive « casino bucks » coupons that they’ll be able to spend at the casino.
Thirdly, on Oct. 18, the Chamber, in collaboration with CBDC Central PEI and the Wellington Rural Action Centre, will present the Entrepreneurs and Co-operators Breakfast at the Centre Belle-Alliance in Summerside with motivational speaker Sébastien Richard. During this same occasion, the Chamber will launch its entrepreneurial awards competition, featuring seven award categories, including two revised ones. The PERCÉ internship program will also launch its promotional videos.
In early November comes the brand-new event – the special luncheon to honor the contribution of Acadian and Francophone fishermen aged 65 years and over to the Island economy. These « pioneers » of the modern fishing industry will each receive a certificate of recognition as well as a delicious meal for two. Specific details will be announced in early September.
In the late afternoon of Nov. 24, the CCAFLIPE and the Collège Acadie Î.-P.-É. will once again co-host a business mixer of the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce at the Centre Belle-Alliance.
The Chamber’s Christmas party, « La P’tite fête des Fêtes », will be celebrated Dec. 2, again at the Centre Belle-Alliance in Summerside, with a light supper, games and gifts.
In addition to all of this, the Chamber is also anticipating the organization of a couple of lunch-and-learns or workshops on topics pertinent to entrepreneurs in late September and early November. Other activities could also be added to the list.
« We certainly hope that a large number of members will participate in all these activities, which are organized specifically for them, » concluded the coordinator.
