Free information session on personal taxes for retirees returning to work

SUMMERSIDE – April 9, 2024 – The “Evangeline Employability 50+” project is hosting a free information session in French Wednesday, April 24, specifically for French-speaking retirees who may be interested in returning to work or taking on small jobs but are unsure if and how that extra income would affect their personal income tax returns.

This same workshop, offered last year in Wellington, had attracted quite a bit of attention so it was decided to offer it again, but this time in Summerside, specifically in Room 103 at the Centre Belle-Alliance, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

« It is sometimes difficult to know how employment income might affect our taxes, especially if we are receiving a pension, » says coordinator Francine Arsenault. « Our Evangeline Employability 50+ project wants to encourage retirees to return to the workforce but we want to make sure they understand whether or not it would have an impact on their taxes. »

Desmond Arsenault, himself semi-retired from a career in the tax field, will deliver the session. After studying accounting at Holland College, Arsenault has prepared tax returns for over 36 years. He worked with the Canada Revenue Agency for 33 years, holding several positions over the years, progressing from client service officer to supervisor to manager. Arsenault continues to serve on several committees in the Evangeline region and is currently the president of the Baie Acadienne Development Corporation. In addition, he is captain, president and spokesperson for the Wellington Fire Department.

After the 90-minute session, Arsenault will answer all of the participants’ questions. A snack will then be served.

Those interested may register by phone with Josée Ouellette at 854-3439 or by email with Francine Arsenault at francine@rdeeipe.org before April 22, 2024.

The Evangeline Employability 50+ component, an important part of the Impact – Aîné.e.s Évangéline project, is managed by RDÉE Prince Edward Island and coordinated by Francine Arsenault.
