Looking for young workers for Youth Services Co-op

WELLINGTON, PEI – July 6, 2012 – The Youth Services Co-op is looking for young workers from the Evangeline area, aged 13-16 years, who are ready to work a few hours a week this summer to earn some spending money.

Co-ordinator Brittany Gallant says again this year, the young members will be asked to do jobs such as mowing lawns, painting, gardening, babysitting, cleaning garages, house cleaning, etc., pour people and businesses from the local community, according to their skills and interests.

“In addition, this service is structured under a co-op model so the youth will learn how co-ops operate,” explains Gallant. “They’ll elect an executive among themselves and will learn how to manage the affairs of a small co-op.”

Usually, when the youth are sent out to work at a residence or at a business, they get paid a fixed hourly rate – minimum wage. The supplementary amount that is charged to clients goes into a co-op fund to help pay administrative and promotional expenses. At the end of the season, any leftover amount pays a recreational activity for the group.

All those interested in registering or to find out more information are urged to immediately contact Brittany Gallant at 854-2328, Ext. 223, at by email at brittany@rdeeipe.org .

The Youth Services Co-op (Coopérative service jeunesse) is a joint initiative of the Conseil de développement coopératif and RDÉE Prince Edward Island Inc. It will operate for the months of July and August.
