WELLINGTON – Oct. 4, 2023 – Thirteen people working in the Evangeline region are now certified or recertified in emergency first aid for the next three years, following a full day of training in Wellington on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Trainer Myrna Gavin of the Summerside-based C&M First Aid Training was on hand to show local workers how to administer first aid, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator. Participants learned about basic assessment and management of airway, breathing and circulation emergencies, first aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest, wound care and other aspects of emergency care. Participants greatly appreciated the trainer’s approach. The training, which focused specifically on emergency care in the workplace, was offered by the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI and the Wellington Rural Action Centre. In the first photo, trainer Myrna Gavin (second from left) is seen with three Wellington Co-op employees taking the course: Chris O’Brien, Camilla Costain and Phoenix McIntosh. In the second photo, three workers are shown learning how to perform CPR using a first-aid dummy.
It should be noted that the Wellington Rural Action Centre (Josée Arsenault at josee@rdeeipe.org or 902-854-3439) is now accepting registrations for a future course. As soon as there are 10 new names on the list, the course will be reoffered. All interested parties should contact Josée ASAP.
