coop services partageslowresOTTAWA, June 18, 2015 – June 18th marked the highly anticipated first meeting of the shared-services co-operative of RDÉE Canada and its members. The network’s 13 organizations, including RDÉE Prince Edward Island, came together to establish a collective endeavour to improve the supply chain and sales of a range of products and services and reduce the network’s operating costs.

Supported by Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada, with which RDÉE Canada has a partnership agreement, the working committee has completed the first two phases for establishing the collective enterprise. It is the beginning of a promising collaborative venture among the member organizations.

Amélie Morel, board chair of the shared-services co-op and executive director of Carrefour Nunavut, is proud of the work that has been done: “The Co-op will be a growth-generating initiative that benefits all the RDÉE Canada members and their clients, and ultimately our Francophone communities. We have lots of potential shared services in mind for them!”
The first shared service in the works involves a range of group insurance services. Co-op members have retained a broker and negotiated the best value in terms of cost/service ratio for network employees. They plan to do the same thing with other services such as telecommunications, travel and administrative support.

Denis Laframboise, RDÉE Canada’s board chair, said he was “delighted to see such an initiative,” adding that “the network is giving fresh impetus to its operations.”

RDÉE PEI’s representative on the new co-op’s board of directors is executive director Bonnie Gallant.

For the past 17 years, RDÉE Canada, building on the expertise and support of its provincial and territorial members, has been the leader of economic development in Francophone and Acadian communities. In both the short and longer-term, RDÉE Canada supports projects and trade initiatives by maintaining sustainable partnerships in promoting the leadership and innovation that the country needs.
