PEI Partnership for Growth invites public feedback on economic action plan

CHARLOTTETOWN – Oct. 19, 2020 – The alliance of 21 business organizations and industry associations known as the Partnership for Growth is inviting the public to provide feedback on the newly drafted 2021-2026 economic action plan. The deadline for feedback is November 2, 2020.

To date, the Partnership has consulted with over 200 stakeholders, including industry representatives from various sectors, stages of business, and geographic areas; business, industry, and community organizations; post-secondary institutions and youth; First Nations and Francophone communities; and municipal, provincial, and federal governments.

« Over the past year, we have worked to develop a plan that will serve as a long-term roadmap for the Island economy, » said Dawn Binns, Partnership for Growth Steering Committee Chair. « While the COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for our hardest-hit industries, and recovery time will vary by industry, we feel the Partnership has a role in both the recovery and the preparation for a future where PEI has a resilient, sustainable, and growing economy. »

The Partnership highlights five guiding principles in its action plan that will guide decisions to build a more sustainable, resilient PEI economy. These include fostering a robust and diverse economy, providing opportunities for a diverse population, building stronger connections between urban and rural areas, demonstrating leadership in sustainability and resilience, and taking a long-term view towards planning.

« Many perspectives have gone into the development of this economic action plan, » said Binns. « Through this final consultation step, we look forward to gathering valuable feedback from the public as we move this initiative forward. »

The Partnership plans to finalize the Economic Action Plan 2021-2026 over the next two months with a formal launch in early 2021. The public can review and submit feedback on the Partnership for Growth Economic Action Plan 2021-2026 online at www.peipartnershipforgrowth.ca.

RDÉE PEI and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI are members of the Partnership; they are there to help ensure the interests of the Island’s francophone community are well taken into consideration in the plan.

About the PEI Partnership for Growth: During the 2019 provincial election, the Partnership for Growth, an alliance of 21 business organizations and industry associations, called for all political parties to commit to working with the private sector to establish an economic action plan that will help realize its vision and move the Island’s economy forward. All four political parties responded in writing with a commitment to do so. Following this, in the 2019 provincial budget, Government allocated funds to assist with the plan’s development.
