Participants learn about federal program for rural and co-operative development

WELLINGTON, PEI – Nov. 23, 2011 – A dozen people, mostly representing organizations, co-ops and municipalities, attended a lunch-and-learn delivered by the Rural Action in Wellington Nov. 23.

The guest speaker was Robert Maddix, regional advisor for PEI with the Rural and Co-operative Secretariat, a division of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. He spoke about the four categories of projects that could potentially be funded by the Community Development Program and the Co-operative Development Initiative. Participants then asked a quantity of questions to determine if their projects could qualify for funding.

Among those present at the session were, seated from left, Jeannette Blaquière, president of The Evangeline Area Agricultural Exhibition and Acadian Festival; Robert Maddix; and Jeannine Arsenault, client information officer with the Rural Action Centre in Wellington. Standing are Angèle Arsenault, president of the Conseil de développement coopératif de l’Î.-P.-É., and Roger Gallant, chairman of the Abram’s Village Municipal Council.
